From the pallet to the workstation

STS drum lifters let a single operator grip, lift, transport and precisely position steel, plastic and fibre drums of 50–220 l without lifting or rolling them by hand. Different chassis designs give access to drums on EUR pallets, from the corner of a pallet, across a whole pallet or directly from the floor, and electric and fully powered versions are available for more frequent handling.

The lifter is brought to the drum, and an adjustable gripper takes hold of its top rim. Once it is held securely, the drum is lifted hydraulically or electrically from the floor, a pallet or a spill sump and moved to another point in the process. Depending on the version, the drum can be placed on another pallet, a trolley, a conveyor, a platform, a process machine or another raised position.

Which drums can we lift?

Steel drums

Standard industrial drums of different volumes and designs, including the classic 200/205-litre drum.

Plastic drums

HDPE and other plastic drums, including MAUSER and similar designs where a secure grip is especially important.

Fibre drums

Containers made of fibreboard and similar materials that need controlled clamping without damaging the wall.

Drums of different diameters

Depending on the gripping system, very different sizes can be accommodated; the STS universal band covers approximately 350–600 mm, while powered-clamp systems work with diameters of approximately 280–610 mm.

Counterbalanced drum lifters

The counterbalanced design has no legs in front of the drum, so the unit can be brought right up to a pallet, spill sump, conveyor, machine or platform. It is a very flexible solution when drums need to be lifted and placed on different surfaces. Standard versions are available with manual or electric lifting.

Side-Shift lifters

The STS Side-Shift design gives access to all the drums on a pallet from one side. The chassis straddles the pallet and the lifting mechanism moves sideways across it, so there is no need to move the pallet to reach the drums at the back.

Corner lifters

Specially shaped legs allow a drum to be picked up from the corner of a pallet and from the narrow, 800 mm side of a EUR pallet. The design is compact and very manoeuvrable, so it suits workstations with limited space.

Standard, stainless steel and ATEX versions

Standard version

For general industry, chemical production, warehouses and other processes without special hygiene requirements.

Stainless steel version

Stainless steel versions are available for the food, pharmaceutical and chemical industries. STS makes its manual stainless steel models from grade 304 stainless steel, with a smooth finish suited to more demanding production environments.

ATEX version

For handling drums in areas with a potentially explosive atmosphere, pneumatic and certain manual versions are available in an ATEX configuration, suitable for zones 1, 2, 21 and 22.
