Lifting and stacking boards

In sawmills and the wood industry, boards, panels and other timber are still often lifted, carried and stacked by hand. Our solutions take the weight of the load and make timber handling safer, more ergonomic and more efficient.

The problem

In sawmills, wood processing plants and other parts of the wood industry, boards, planks, panels and other timber often have to be lifted, moved and stacked one by one between workstations.

Such loads can be long, wide, heavy and awkward to grip safely by hand. Operators often have to lift them from a stack or conveyor, turn them, position them and stack them again on a pallet, a bundle or a production line.

The problem grows with larger board dimensions and with processes repeated many times per shift. Repetitive lifting and carrying of timber increases physical strain, speeds up fatigue and can slow the production rhythm.

A further challenge is the need to grip the board securely and move it without damaging its surface.

How we solve it

For handling boards and other timber we use systems that take the weight of the load and let the operator lift, move and position it precisely in a controlled way.

The board is picked up with a suitable vacuum gripper and lifted from the stack, pallet, conveyor or work surface. The operator then simply guides the load to the desired position and lowers it, without carrying the full weight by hand.

Depending on the process, the solution can be used for stacking and restacking boards, loading or unloading a production line, moving timber between workstations or preparing products for further processing.

The system is adapted to the dimensions, weight, surface and shape of the wooden element, as well as to the available workspace and the production method in the sawmill or wood processing plant.

The equipment takes the weight of the board while the operator controls its lifting, movement and stacking.

What our solution gives you

Less physical strain

The need to lift, carry and turn heavy or long boards by hand is reduced.

A more even work pace

Operators tire less and can keep a steadier work rhythm throughout the shift.

Safer timber handling

Controlled gripping and guidance of the load reduce the chance of the board slipping or moving uncontrollably.

Lower risk of damage

The right gripping method allows more careful handling of the wood surface during lifting and stacking.

Easier stacking and restacking

Boards are moved more easily between the stack, the conveyor, the pallet and the next stage of the production process.
