Sack handling in production
Sacks of raw materials are still often lifted, carried and emptied into machines, containers or process equipment by hand. Our vacuum solutions take the weight of the sack and make handling safer, more ergonomic and more efficient.
The problem
Sacks of raw materials are common in the food, chemical, pharmaceutical and other process industries. Operators have to lift them from pallets, move them between workstations or bring them to the machines and containers into which their contents are emptied.
This work often involves repeatedly lifting loads of 20, 25 or 50 kilograms, frequently from different heights and from unfavourable positions.
As the pallet empties, the operator has to bend lower and lower, while lifting a sack to a higher intake point can mean working above an ergonomic height. With a large number of sacks per shift, the physical strain builds up quickly.
The consequences can be operator fatigue, a slower pace, greater ergonomic risk and a higher chance of damaging the sack or spilling its contents.
How we solve it
For sack handling we use vacuum lifters that take the weight of the load while the operator simply guides its movement.
The sack is picked up with a suitable vacuum gripper, lifted from the pallet or another set-down point and moved to the desired position in a controlled way. The operator does not have to carry the full weight or perform repetitive manual lifts.
Depending on the process, the sack can be moved onto another pallet, a conveyor, a workbench, a machine or to the point where its contents are emptied.
The system is adapted to the weight, dimensions, material and surface of the sack, as well as to the available space and the way the operator works.
The equipment takes the weight, and the operator controls the movement and positioning of the sack.
Which kinds of sack can we lift?
- paper sacks
- plastic sacks
- sacks made of natural fibre
- sacks of varying size and weight, depending on the application and on whether they can be gripped safely
What our solution gives you
Less physical strain
The equipment takes the weight of the sack and reduces the need for repetitive manual lifting and carrying.
A more even work pace
Less operator fatigue allows a steadier work rhythm throughout the shift.
Safer sack handling
Controlled lifting and positioning reduce the chance of dropping the sack, damaging the packaging and spilling the contents uncontrollably.
Easier supply of the production process
Sacks are brought more easily to machines, containers and other process points, whatever their height or position.
